How to Troubleshoot a Flow Switch

A broken flow switch can keep your spa from working properly. According to the Spababes website, the switch is the device that provides a "bridge" for electricity to cross or not to cross. If you turn it on, electricity will flow, sending a message to the machine to function. If you switch it off, the machine receives a message to cease operation. If you are trying to get the flow switch to work, and you keep getting an "error" message, a number of problems could exist.

Instructions

1
Check the water level in your spa. Pay close attention to the GPM rating, because as the Ameritherm website states, that's the minimum number of gallons your tub requires in order to run.

2
Look at your spa filter. According to the Metapacks website, a dirty filter may cause an error which could result in your entire spa shutting down.

3
Subtract the forward pressure you observe in the tub from the back pressure. As the Ameritherm website indicates, make sure a 40 pounds per square inch deferential between these two figures exists. If that's not the case, your flow switch will not close and your spa will not work.

4
Open your pack cover. Observe the lighting on the LED cover. If the light is on, proceed. If the necessary lighting is absent, however, rewire your LED so as to establish the proper settings.

5
Check to see if your flow switch is open or closed. If it's closed, reset it. According to the Metapacks website, do this by disconnecting the flow switch cable for five seconds and reconnecting it.

6
Check for error messages. According to Metapacks, if the error condition disappears, replace the flow switch. If it is still present, replace the entire LED board.
